New Materials for CEREC Technology

Crown in an Hour procedures from Elite Smiles Dentistry rely on Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics (CEREC) technology. Recently, manufacturers announced new CEREC advances that will help in the restoration of natural smiles in Florida and elsewhere.
Three new materials were released to provide esthetics, strength, and expanded breadth to CEREC. These new materials are expected to expand the opportunities and clinical indications for dentists.
There are three new advancements to the CEREC materials. The first is a chairside block that is able to replicate the tooth’s natural internal chromatic dentin layer as a way to improve the anterior esthetics. Second is a simplified process for taking impressions often used in Crown in an Hour procedures. And lastly, a higher strength material was released that should expand repair options for patients needing replacement crowns for second molars.
Computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM) systems in the past were limited in their ability to match the internal chromatic dentin in the anterior tooth. With the new CEREC technology, this is no longer a concern. Now, the machine is able to model dentin after the shape seen in the natural tooth onto the crown or tooth replacement. This makes the tooth color used more lifelike, leaving patients happier with the esthetic results.
CEREC uses specialized cameras—such as Omnicam or Bluecam—to take relevant information about the position and model of crowns and implants. The software algorithms allow for the exact replication of the tooth to be created, which also gives the patient a better, and faster result.
New materials released to strengthen crowns and implants include full contour zirconia. This material offers better esthetics. It is a cost-effective way to get the same strong material for a variety of types of crowns. It can also be milled with high-speed machines, making it possible to use the new products for Crown in an Hour procedures in Florida.
