Chose Composite Resins for Healthier, Safer Fillings
At
Elite Smiles Dentistry, we only use composite resin for filling your
cavities.
The
most popular reason to use composite resins is their ability to be
matched your individual tooth color, giving you a more
natural-looking smile. However, there also are many health reasons
why you would want to go with this option.
Composite
resins are bonded with acid etching to teeth, whereas traditional
metal fillings require bonding with cement. This means your dentist
can leave behind healthy tooth enamel when removing and filling
cavities. Further, the acid etching method provides a tighter bond,
which means a composite filling gives more support to your tooth,
which, in turn, contributes greatly to your long-term dental health.
Unlike
metal fillings, composite resins don't expand and contract with heat
and cold. When metal fillings do this, they expose more of the
interior of your tooth, opening them up to bacteria and food, and
increasing your risk of infection and further decay.
Lastly,
did you know that metal fillings contain mercury? The risk of mercury
poisoning, though small, does exist with metal fillings. Composite
resins, on the other hand, have no such risk at all; they are
biocompatible.
For
beauty, health and ease, composite fillings are the best choice. Dr.
Freeman and his team would be happy to explain the full benefits of
this procedure to you.
